Evacuations, Mudslides, Downed Trees, Roads Closed: Peninsula Storm Damage

A list of damage reports and road closures from across San Mateo County from Tuesday.

SAN MATEO COUNTY, CA – A winter storm wreaked havoc on communities across the Peninsula Tuesday, leading to downed power lines and trees, flooding and road closures. What's more, voluntary evacuations were even in effect for several hours in one local community.

"Residents at the Woodland Creek Condominiums are asked to voluntarily evacuate," San Mateo County officials said in an emailed alert Tuesday afternoon. Video from the East Palo Alto community showed floodwaters rising quickly.

Power outages were scattered across the Bay Area on Tuesday, with some 10,000 total customers without power at one point, according to PG&E. Here on the Peninsula, there were approximately 1,300 affected at one point.

Highway 84 was closed in San Mateo County, near Portola Valley. The highway is closed just west of state Highway 35 with no estimated time for reopening.

The Voluntary Evacuation at WOODLAND CREEK CONDOMINIUMS was lifted effective 3:30 p.m. PST.
The shelter at East Palo Alto YMCA, at 550 Bell Street is now closed.

West Bayshore Avenue at Woodland Avenue will remain closed until Caltrans finish operations to remove debris from the creek.

Flooding has closed Los Trancos road in the 500 block with no predicted reopening. The detour is through the ranch on Valley Oak for local residents. OES for Woodside Fire BC-2

The National Weather service and local authorities have issued a flood WARNING for the City of East Palo Alto.

RESIDENTS AT THE WOODLAND CREEK CONDOMINIUMS ARE ASKED TO VOLUNTARILY EVACUATE. WEST BAYSHORE AVENUE IS CLOSED AT WOODLAND AVENUE. USE UNIVERSITY AVENUE. MOVE TO HIGHER GROUND.

Kings Mt Rd above Huddart Park is closed due to mud slides for approximately 2 hours USE Hwy 92 or Old La Honda Rd. Huddart Park and Wunderlich Parks are also closed.

Trees have fallen into wires blocking Highway 35 in both directions at Bear Gulch Road East. The road will be completely closed until 1:00 pm at the earliest.

Alpine Road will be closed for the next 4-5 hours between the Joaquin Road and the 5000 block of Alpine. The closure is due to multiple tree down. one tree has been cleared and crews are currently working on the two remaining trees.

Kings Mountain Road will be closed for the next 3-4 hours between Huddart Park Road and Skyline Trail. The Hard Closure is due to flooding.

East Palo Alto, West Bayshore Road closed due to creek flooding at Woodland and Channing. No estimate for its re-open.

San Mateo Road SR-92 at Diggs Canyon Just east of Half Moon Bay is partially closed due to a tree down. The Sheriff's Office & CHP are doing one way traffic. ETA 45 minutes until roadway open. Use alternate routes until open.

Burlingame -- Southbound El Camino Real between Ray Drive and Adeline Dr. is closed due to a fallen tree. Please avoid the area and use alternative routes. Updates will be forthcoming. -- Burlingame Police Department

SR-84 (Woodside Road) is blocked by a landslide e/of SR-35 (Skyline Blvd), which is slowing efforts to remove the tree blocking SR-35 s/of SR-84. Please avoid the area! Unknown ETO for both closures. --CHP S2
