Fake 'Doctor' Who Sexual Assaulted Women At Redwood City Hospital Headed to Jail

REDWOOD CITY, CA — A man who worked as head of security at a Redwood City hospital will spend a year in jail for posing as a doctor and sexually assaulting two women, San Mateo County prosecutors say. Garry Chow was sentenced in Judge Donald Ayoob's courtroom in Redwood City. Chow had been out of jail on $150,000 bond.

Chow, a 33-year-old Modesto man, was head of security at Sequoia Hospital at the time of the assaults, according to prosecutors.

On Sept. 10, 2015, two women answered an ad for modeling on craigslist.org. The person they spoke with said they would need to have a medical screening before being hired.

Chow, who used a fake nametag and posed as Dr. Chen, took both women at separate times to a utility room where he assaulted them, prosecutors said.

The second victim became suspicious immediately after the assault and called police. The first woman spoke with police about two weeks later. Chow tried to charge the first woman $200 for the exam, however,
she refused.

Chow was arrested on Oct. 13 at his home where officers found evidence linking him to the assaults.

In addition to his jail sentence, Chow must also serve five years of probation, complete a residential treatment program and register for life as a sex offender, according to prosecutors.

A call to Chow's attorney, James Dunn, was not immediately returned.
