Fire Engulfs Redwood City Gas Station [PHOTOS]

Part of the Chevron station was consumed in flames in the incident sparked by a car fire.

REDWOOD CITY, CA — A vehicle fire led to an explosion at a Redwood City gas station on Thursday night, firefighters report. The incident happened at a Chevron station located at 710 Woodside Road.

Emergency crews from the Redwood City Fire Department and the Menlo Park Fire Protection District were dispatched to the scene, according to a statement posted online just before 8:51 p.m. Roughly 10 minutes later the fire had been extinguished, but the gas station sustained damage as a result of the blaze.

The Redwood City Fire Department later posted images from the scene that were obtained via video by a neighbor. In them, a large fire can be seen consuming a red car and the gas station's shade structure. A large plume of smoke emitted from the structure.

Following the incident, westbound Woodside Road was closed near Hudson Street for roughly half an hour.

Additional information about the cause of the fire was not immediately available.
