'Lock Your Houses': 3 Teen Inmates Escape Peninsula Facility

BREAKING: Sheriff's officials say multiple youth inmates walked away from the facility late Wednesday. One is still missing.

SAN MATEO COUNTY, CA — Three teen inmates escaped a Peninsula juvenile correctional facility late Wednesday and the sheriff's department is asking residents to be on the lookout for one of them who remained missing as of Thursday morning.

The San Mateo County Sheriff's Office says three juvenile boys — ages 16, 17 and 18 — walked away from the Log Cabin Ranch in La Honda in unincorporated San Mateo County around 11 p.m. Wednesday.

"Please be sure to lock your houses and secure your vehicles," the sheriff's department said on Twitter. "Look out for 3 Hispanic males wearing blue sweat pants & brown & blue sweaters."

By 9 a.m. Thursday, two of the teens had been found, according to officials.

"Trevor Portillo, 17 years old, is still outstanding wearing issued uniforms similar to those pictures in this photo (minus the vest)," the SMC sheriff's office Tweeted on Thursday morning, while sharing the below photo.

"Two of the individuals who walked away from camp are in custody. Trevor Portillo, 17 years old, is still outstanding wearing issued uniforms similar to those pictures in this photo (minus the vest)," the San Mateo County Sheriff's Office tweeted just before 9 a.m. Thursday.

Portillo was in custody for charges related to robbery and weapons violations, the sheriff's department said.

Log Cabin Ranch School is a facility for "juveniles of San Francisco who have been adjudicated delinquent by the Juvenile Courts and sent to Log Cabin for treatment and rehabilitation," according to the county of San Francisco.
