Man Dies in Peninsula Ferrari Crash As Sports Car Carvan Makes Way Through Region: CHP

WOODSIDE, CA – A 46-year-old man from San Jose died when he crashed a rented sports car near Woodside this week, the California Highway Patrol reports.

San Mateo County coroner's officials have identified David Michael Wright as the victim in the deadly crash, which was reported shortly after 12:25 p.m. Wednesday on State Route 84, about a mile west of Highway 35, according to CHP Officer Art Montiel.

Wright was apparently taking part in a caravan of expensive sports cars and was driving a Ferrari when he failed to negotiate a left curve on the road. He went about 100 feet down an embankment before crashing into a redwood tree, Montiel said. He was ejected from the vehicle despite wearing a seatbelt and was pronounced dead at the scene.

The car was a rental from a San Jose-based Ferrari car club, and Wright was traveling with a group of other high-end sports car enthusiasts, Montiel said.

Drugs or alcohol do not appear to be factors in the crash. The cause remains under investigation, he said.
