Man Found Dead In Parking Lot On SMC Coastside Is Identified

Coroner's officials have publicly identified the man who was found on Valentine's Day.

MONTARA, CA — A man who was found dead in the early morning hours of Valentine's Day at a coastside parking lot in San Mateo County has been publicly identified nine days later. He was Gilberto Martin Rodriguez, the San Mateo County coroner's office said Friday.

Rodriguez was a resident of San Francisco, according to coroner's officials. He was 53.

Details surrounding the man's death are limited, but sheriff's officials say Rodriguez was found just after 1 a.m. Feb. 14 in the parking lot of Whale Cove State Beach near Half Moon Bay. He had traumatic injuries on his face and "upper part of his body," according to sheriff's Det. Sal Zuno and the coroner's office.

"Awaiting the results of further testing, the cause of death is pending investigation," according to the coroner's office.
