Man Stabbed In Head, Foot Found Atop Burning Bed, Peninsula Prosecutors Say

BREAKING: Bail was set at $10 million for the Peninsula man accused of stabbing a roommate and setting their home on fire.

SAN MATEO, CA — A San Mateo man made his first appearance in court Monday following his arrest last week when he allegedly stabbed one roommate, threatened another roommate and set his home on fire, San Mateo County prosecutors said.

Keith Love, 57, was appointed an attorney from the county's private defender program and bail was set at $10 million. He is charged with two counts of attempted murder, felony threats and arson, San Mateo County District Attorney Steve Wagstaffe said.

On Thursday, Love's roommate called police at 7:41 p.m. and alleged that Love threatened to stab him with a knife at their home on North Eldorado Street, police said.

The same roommate said Love threatened to kill him, swung at him with a knife and threw the knife at him, hitting him in the arm. The victim was able to flee the house and spoke with police outside.

Police said that when Love opened the door, he saw officers he closed and locked the door.

Officers surrounded the home and tried to talk to Love until they saw smoke and flames coming from the home. Then they barged through the door, according to police.

Inside officers found a second victim who had been stabbed in the head and foot. The victim was lying on a bed, which was on fire, prosecutors said.

Love tried to barricade himself in a closet but officers were able to arrest him, though he resisted. Love was not armed with the knife when he was arrested, according to police.

The San Mateo Fire Department was able to extinguish the fire.

The victim found inside the home was treated at a hospital for smoke inhalation and stab wounds. He is expected to survive, police said.

Love was evaluated at a hospital for smoke inhalation before being booked into the Maguire Correctional Facility, where he remains in custody. Love is expected to be in court next on Apr. 18.
