Dan Mulholland has more than three decades of law enforcement experience.

REDWOOD CITY, CA — The city of Redwood City announced Thursday that they've picked a new police chief. Daniel "Dan" Mulholland was the "top pick" following the city's months-long recruitment process, according to the city manager's office.
"I heard from hundreds of people, both community members and members of the department, during the recruitment process," said Melissa Stevenson Diaz, city manager of Redwood City.
Mulholland started his law enforcement career in Redwood City back in 1987. He rose through the ranks throughout the decades and most recently oversaw the management of personnel in several departments, according to the city. He's also been the acting chief.

Mulholland, who has a BA in sociology from Berkeley, said he's grateful for the new opportunity.
"I have a lifelong connection with the community and consider Redwood City to be my home, and the men and women of the police department to be my second family," said Mulholland. "Our department enjoys tremendous support from the community and I look forward to working in partnership with our residents, visitors and businesses to reduce crime and reduce the fear of crime and to create a better quality of life for the Redwood City community."
Mulholland lives in Contra Costa County and is married with two adult children. He enjoys the outdoors, including camping and backpacking.
