Peninsula Man Accused of Trying to Rape Girl, 17, at Local Beach

Sheriff's officials say they arrested the man at his Peninsula home on Thursday. [BREAKING]

EL GRANADA, CA – Sheriff's officials say they've arrested a man who tried to rape his ex-girlfriend at a Peninsula beach.

According to Sheriff's Det. Sal Zuno, the incident happened on Thanksgiving Day while the duo were at Mavericks Beach. The 17-year-old victim reported police on Nov. 30 that the man tried to sexually assault her.

victim’s allegations."

"This additional evidence was sufficient enough for detectives to obtain a $500,000 warrant for [his] arrest," Zuno said.

Erick Mendez-Corona, 20, was arrested at his home in El Granada on Thursday morning.

"After being interviewed by Sheriff’s detectives, he was booked into the Maguire Correctional Facility," Zuno said.

Jail records show he was being held on charges of attempted sexual battery, assault with intent to commit rape of a person under 18 and sexual battery.
