SAN MATEO, CA – San Mateo County coroner's officials have publicly identified a man who was found dead at the scene of a solo vehicle crash near a highway connector over the weekend.

Jayesh R. Patel of Pacifica was pronounced dead at the scene when emergency responders arrived around noon Saturday, according to the CHP and coroner's officials. He was 49.

According to CHP Officer Art Montiel, the crash was discovered in the 1900 block of South Norfolk Street, just near the westbound state Highway 92 connector ramp to northbound U.S. Highway 101.

CHP officers think that sometime after 10 p.m. Friday, Patel was driving a 2000 Mercedes on the elevated connector ramp when he lost control of the car and collided with the concrete barrier on the east side of the roadway.

"The force of the collision caused the Mercedes to travel over the concrete barrier and fall onto the dirt field from the connector ramp," Montiel said in a news release. "The Mercedes came to rest in a dirt field located under the interchange of eastbound SR-92 to northbound US-101 within the city limits of the city of San Mateo."
