SAN CARLOS, CA — A San Carlos man has been identified in a deadly train strike on the Peninsula Caltrain tracks this week.
Fifty-year-old Xavier Pucel died at the scene of the incident, which happened around 9:15 p.m. on the train tracks near Chestnut Street in Redwood City, according to the San Mateo County coroner's office.
The circumstances surrounding the death are still under investigation by the coroner's office, but Caltrain officials say Pucel had been trespassing in the area.

"No matter what the circumstances, it is always regrettable when a life is lost," Caltrain Spokeswoman Tasha Bartholomew said. "Caltrain reminds everyone to be safe around train tracks."
A total of 260 passengers were aboard the train at the time of the incident. They were transferred to another train after the coroner arrived on scene and transit police cleared the locomotive.
