REDWOOD CITY, CA – A 28-year-old San Mateo man convicted of molesting a young girl over a period of several months starting in 2013 was sentenced to 30-years-to-life in state prison Friday, according to the San Mateo County District Attorney's Office.
District Attorney officials say Melfido Otto Valdez-Orozco was living with a family friend for nine months in 2013 and 2014 when the sexual assaults occurred.
"Over several months, [the] defendant repeatedly fondled, molested and digitally penetrated the victim starting while she was 6-years-old and into her seventh year," a District Attorney report states.

On June 17, a jury found Valdez-Orozco guilty of five counts related to the molestations, including three counts of felony sex acts with a child.
He was caught after the girl's mother noticed that she was acting strangely and complaining of genital pain. When she asked her daughter what was wrong, the girl told her about the molestation, according to prosecutors.
