Recognize Her? Woman Suspected Of Snatching Redwood City Valuables In Broad Daylight

REDWOOD CITY, CA — A suspected Redwood City thief is being sought after allegedly nabbing more than $1,000 worth of valuables from a local carport, Patch is told. The woman, who can be seen in the surveillance footage below, walked into the parking area, sifted through a box of equipment and left with what she pleased, Redwood City resident Matthew Reyes says.

According to Reyes, the woman made not one, but two, appearances at his carport on July 4. The location on Clinton Street near Whipple Avenue, was targeted as Independence Day was just getting started, around 6:30 a.m.

"The first visit took place while she was walking the dog," Reyes said in a YouTube post of the footage, noting that the woman came with a walkie talkie in tow as well. "She entered the carport, grabbed one item and left within 40 seconds. Sixteen minutes later she returned with a bag and took the remaining items and departed again within 40 seconds."

Reyes tells Patch that he has a security system set up — which is how he caught images of the suspected thief — and he was warned of her presence, but he got down to the location after she'd already left.

"The security system notified me of the intruder but I was 3 minutes late in getting to the carport in time (I was still asleep)," he said. "I drove around the immediate vicinity (Whipple, Clinton, Duane, Birch, El Camino) but not a sign of the suspect."

Reyes said he called police and filed a report right away. However, the woman has not yet been caught.

He's hoping that by sharing this images, someone in the community may recognize the woman. Already, a neighbor on Nextdoor informed him that they, too, caught the woman on camera.

"She was observed on camera talking into her walkie-talkie before returning to get the rest of the gear," he said. "She was then observed dropping something off at someone's yard, but a search of that yard hasn't turned anything up."

As for why he had a box of valuable items unattended outside? Reyes says he "wasn't thinking" because he was tired and had left the items there only briefly while he looked for a place inside where they'd fit; something he says won't happen again.

Anyone who may know who the woman is should call the Redwood City Police Department at 650-780-7100 and reference case number R17-07-043.
