Redwood City Armed Robbery Suspect Arrested

REDWOOD CITY, CA — A 29-year-old man was arrested on suspicion of armed robbery for allegedly pistol-whipping a victim and stealing their gold necklace Saturday, Redwood City police said.

Jose Guadalupe Gaytan was identified as the suspect, police said.

Officers responded to a report of an armed robbery at around 1:15 p.m. at Hoover Park at 2100 Spring Street according to police.

One of the victims told police he had just been pistol-whipped, and that his friend’s gold necklace was stolen.

The victims told police the suspect fled the area, possibly in a gray Land Rover.

Officers located the Land Rover and robbery suspect, identified as Jose Guadalupe Gaytan, in the area.

Gaytan was positively identified by independent witnesses and both victims and was wearing the victim’s gold necklace around his neck, police said.

A loaded .25 caliber Colt semi-automatic handgun was located at the scene, police said

Gaytan was arrested and booked into the San Mateo County Jail on several felony and misdemeanor charges, including robbery, assault on a person with a firearm, and possession of a firearm by a convicted felon.
