Officials say the commercial building was under renovation.

SAN MATEO, CA — A fire Thursday night in San Mateo caused roughly $100,000 in damage to a commercial building under renovation, fire officials said.

Firefighters from the San Mateo and Foster City fire departments responded at 8:03 p.m. to a report of smoke coming from the roof of a single-story building at 151 West 20th Ave.

Firefighters found fire in the ceiling and attic area of the building before they called for a second alarm to get more help.
