SAN CARLOS, CA – A Redwood City man has been booked on prowling charges this afternoon, after police say he was caught looking into the windows of an area residence earlier today.
According to San Mateo Sheriff's Det. Salvador Zuno, a concerned neighbor spotted the man around 11:40 a.m. Monday in the 1500 block of Howard Avenue.
"A concerned neighbor reported and described a suspicious person knocking on the front door and looking through several windows of a nearby residence," Zuno said. "The neighbor confronted the suspect who then fled."

Sheriff's deputies responded and found the man a few blocks away, according to Zuno. He was identified as 36-year-old Mario Callen of Redwood City.
"This is a great example of 'See Something, Say Something' and an alert neighbor not hesitating," Zuno said in a news release.

However, the detective did say it's best not to approach suspicious people yourself.
"The Sheriff’s Office does not suggest you approach suspicious persons," he said. "We prefer you provide the best possible description of their person and actions. Your safety is our priority. This case is still under investigation."
Anyone with information in this case was asked to call Det. Scott Berberian at (650) 363-4051
