Redwood City Man Says He Didn't Stab Girlfriend to Death

REDWOOD CITY, CA- A man accused of stabbing his girlfriend to death in her San Mateo home last month pleaded not guilty to murder charges on Tuesday, according to San Mateo County prosecutors.

Anthony Kirincic, 22, appeared with his court-appointed attorney in San Mateo County Superior Court to enter the plea and was ordered to return to court on March 3 for a preliminary hearing, prosecutors said. He remains in jail without bail.

Kirincic is accused of stabbing 34-year-old Colleen Elizabeth Straw inside her home in the 1500 block of South B Street on Nov. 28.

Police responded to the home at about noon and found Straw suffering stab wounds. She was pronounced dead there.

Kirincic was not there when police arrived but was quickly identified as a suspect.

Police spent the next two days searching for him and finally spotted him while conducting surveillance on his parents’ home in Redwood City on Nov. 30, police said.

A SWAT team responded and stormed the home a few hours later, taking Kirincic into custody.

Kirincic had been released from jail after completing a 120-day sentence for domestic violence just a few days before the stabbing, according to prosecutors.

Straw was a graphic designer who graduated from San Francisco State University in 2009.
