Redwood City Police Announce New Year's DUI Crackdown
Police remind motorists that "DUI doesn't just mean booze."

REDWOOD CITY, CA — Redwood City police announced this week that they'll be hitting the streets in full force this holiday weekend to ensure motorists don't drink and drive. Multiple DUI saturation patrols are planned in the coming days.
According to Redwood City PD, the DUI Enforcement Team will conduct saturation patrols between Thursday night and Tuesday "in areas with high frequencies of DUI collisions and/or arrests."
"These extra officers on the road, along with routine patrols, are aimed to drastically reduce impaired driving on our community’s roadways," police said in a news release.

What's more, police stressed that they won't just be looking for those who get behind the wheel after drinking alcohol. They'll also be focusing on those potentially under the influence of drugs.
“It has taken more than 35 years to convince the vast majority of the public that driving under the influence of alcohol is dangerous, illegal and socially unacceptable,” said Rhonda Craft, Director of the Office of Traffic Safety in a news release. “With more dying on our roadways every day, we can’t afford to take that long when it comes to driving under the influence of prescription medications, marijuana, illicit drugs and even some over-the-counter medications.”
