“Strengthening Community Partnership through Enhanced Outreach”
The members of the Redwood City Police Department recognize that a key component to ensuring public safety is maintaining a strong partnership with the community we serve. Our residents, businesses and visitors are our eyes and ears in the community, and each plays a vital role in our delivery of exceptional service.

Our Virtual Ride-a-Long event will give our Twitter followers a look into a typical shift on patrol by tweeting the details of each call in real time. By partnering with a proactive, well-informed public, we will continue to make strides toward reducing crime, reducing the fear of crime and improving the quality of life for the community we serve.

The Redwood City Police Department is continuing its popular Coffee with the Cops events in 2017. The program is presented in both English and Spanish, and is offered by the Police Department in an effort to enhance communication with the community. Coffee with the Cops is an informal event designed to allow community members the opportunity to ask questions and learn about new programs the Police Department is currently focusing on in their neighborhood. During Coffee with the Cops, no formal presentation takes place, so citizens are welcome to drop in anytime during the event. Citizens will have the opportunity to meet the officers who are working in their neighborhoods. Officers will answer questions, pass out crime prevention information, connect citizens with City services and help citizens get connected to the Redwood City Police Department's Social Media sites.

The Redwood City Police Department continues to hold two Citizen Police Academy Classes annually, one in English and one in Spanish. Our Citizens Police Academy program brings "real life" law enforcement skills and experience to the community. From narcotics to criminal law, gangs to the SWAT program, and juvenile crime to K9, the Redwood City Citizen’s Police Academy offers an in-depth look at the day-to-day experiences of police work. The Academy is an exciting 11-week program that is modeled after the State's curriculum for actual police academies.

The Parent Project is a 12-week course taught by the Redwood City Police Department Juvenile Services Division. The program teaches proven concepts and methods designed to empower parents and reign in the abusive and destructive behavior of 'out-of-control' teens, thus improving the family dynamic. English speaking classes begin in March. The “Loving Solutions” course for Spanish-speakers, a version of the Parent Project designed for parents of younger children, will start in November. A third Parent Project class may become available during this year, and additional public notifications will follow accordingly. Classes are held Tuesday evenings from 6:00 - 9:00 pm, the program is free of charge and child care is also provided to participants. For additional information on these programs, follow this link:
