Redwood City Releases Draft Docktown Plan for Public Review

The Draft Docktown plan and recently completed environmental studies will be discussed at a special community meeting.

REDWOOD CITY, CA - The City of Redwood City today released a draft plan that outlines potential relocation assistance options and a relocation timetable for Docktown Marina residents. Closing Docktown Marina is required in order for the City to meet its legal obligation to allow full public access to the land on which the marina is located.

"Providing Docktown community members with reasonable assistance and support as they relocate from Docktown Marina was paramount in development of the Draft Docktown Plan," said Mayor John Seybert. "The City is committed to working with Docktown residents to collect information about their particular circumstances and to discuss feedback as the plan is refined."

The Draft Docktown Plan provides information regarding the following:

  • Relocation assistance program eligibility criteria;
  • Relocation advisory services, such as information on marina and land-based housing options;
  • Financial assistance, such as payment of moving and other associated relocation cost;
  • Opportunities to relocate Docktown dwellings to other marinas;
  • Offers to purchase Docktown dwellings based on the structure's fair market value, in cases where a dwelling cannot be moved to another location; and
  • Enhanced benefits for individuals who are disabled, low income, seniors, or veterans.

The Draft Docktown plan and recently completed environmental studies will be discussed at a special community meeting on Nov. 17, 2016, at 7 p.m., in the Community Room of the Main Library, 1044 Middlefield Road in Redwood City.

All members of the public are encouraged to submit written comments regarding the Draft Docktown Plan via email. Comments should be directed to docktownplan@redwoodcity.org and include "Draft Docktown Plan Comment" in the subject line. Comments must be received no later than Nov. 30, 2016.

Comments received will be included in an appendix to the Draft Docktown Plan, which will be submitted to the City Council for consideration on Dec.12, 2016. At its discretion, the City Council may elect to approve the Draft Docktown Plan as presented or make revisions to the plan. The City Council is obligated to adopt a Final Docktown Plan beforeDec. 31, 2016. The process of implementing the Final Docktown Plan will begin in early 2017.

Release of the Draft Docktown Plan comes one week after the City released results of an environmental assessment of Redwood Creek and waters surrounding Docktown Marina, which was performed by a third-party environmental consulting firm. The assessment of the study area (Redwood Creek and the adjacent slough) concludes that Docktown Marina is not a significant source of bacteriological or chemical contamination and that no additional environmental investigation or remediation of sediments/water associated with Docktown Marina is warranted. The results of the assessment are available in their entirety here.
