Suicidal Man Barricades Self Inside Redwood City Home, Prompting SWAT Response: UPDATED
BREAKING: Surrounding roads and two schools were closed Tuesday morning before the man was ultimately apprehended.

REDWOOD CITY, CA — A suicidal man was taken into custody after prompting a large police response in Redwood City on Tuesday morning, officials tell Patch.
According to Redwood City police, as of 10:30 a.m., all of the surrounding roads except for the 500 block of Harrison Avenue were back open to the public.
Before that, though, residents and drivers had been asked to avoid the roads the area due to police SWAT activity in the area, police officials said. Harrison Avenue and Clinton Street, and James Avenue and Duane Street had all been closed.

At 1:31 a.m., a man called 911 and made suicidal statements to a police dispatcher, according to Redwood City police Lt. Sean Hart. When officers arrived to the home, the man refused to come outside to speak to them. According to police, they heard gunshots inside the home after they tried to communicate with him.
"The police negotiators are currently working with the subject to bring this to a peaceful resolution," police said in a statement at the time.

Police have evacuated the neighboring residences.
Police said via Twitter that Sequoia High School will be open Tueday morning. Northstar and McKinley schools were closed until 10 a.m., police said.
