Suspect Arrested In Redwood City Caltrain Assault: Report

REDWOOD CITY, CA — A woman was assaulted at a Redwood City Caltrain station early Friday morning by a suspect who had been released from jail on charges of a similar crime, The San Mateo Daily Journal reports.

The suspect, Jose Calderon, 33-year-old homeless man, was charged with assault with the intent to commit sexual assault according to the report, which cited District Attorney Steve Wagstaffe.

The alleged incident occurred at around 2:40 a.m., the report said.

Calderon ran away from the scene after a Safeway employee threatened to call police according to the report, but police arriving on the scene found him nearby.

Calderon had been arrested and convicted for a similar incident in Daly City last year, the report said.
