Teen ID'd in Deadly Crash, Driver Arrested After Leading Cops On Pursuit Through Peninsula: CHP

SANTA MATEO COUNTY, CA – The driver in a police chase that ended in a passenger's death in Sunnyvale this morning has been identified as 19-year-old Zain Dadabhai from San Francisco, California Highway Patrol officers said.

At about 12:45 a.m., CHP officers received a call that San Francisco police were pursuing two armed robbery suspects on southbound U.S. Highway 101.

CHP officers took over the pursuit at Highway 101 and Ralston Avenue before continuing south to state highways 85 and 237, according to CHP Redwood City Officer Art Montiel.

The suspects exited Highway 237 at Grant Road and turned left on Fremont Avenue before losing control of the vehicle, hitting five parked cars and overturning several times in a parking lot at East Fremont Avenue and El Camino Real.

The 18-year-old passenger was ejected from the car and pronounced dead at the scene, Montiel said. Dadabhai was arrested and taken to the hospital with minor injuries.

The deceased passenger was also from San Francisco, Montiel said.

Eastbound El Camino Real in Sunnyvale has been closed between South Wolfe Road and Poplar Avenue since about 2:25 a.m. as officers investigate.
