Teens Pulled From Fiery Car Crash By Off-Duty Redwood City Cop

Two teens driving on I-80 in Truckee collided with a guard rail, but were pulled to safety as the vehicle burned.

TRUCKEE, CA — An off-duty Redwood City Police officer pulled two teenagers from a Maserati engulfed in flames along the I-80 near Donner Pass Road Friday, saving their lives. The two teens collided with a guardrail after losing control of the vehicle.

A 14-year-old boy from Truckee was driving the vehicle at suspected high speeds, while and a 15-year-old girl from Olympic Valley was in the passenger seat, according to multiple reports. The two were traveling eastbound just before 11:30 p.m. when the driver lost control at a high speed.

The off-duty officer happened to be near the collision when the vehicle went up in flames and successfully aided California Highway Patrol Officer Seth Jennings in pulling the teens out of the fiery vehicle as it burned.

Both teens were air-lifted to the hospital and their condition was unknown. According to CHP, no drugs or alcohol are suspected.

"The Labor Day weekend is upon us and we encourage everyone traveling on the highways, and especially to the mountains, to drive safely," The Truckee CHP said in a Facebook post. "The CHP is currently in a 'Maximum Enforcement Period' until Monday night and you will see an increase in units patrolling the road.
