'Very Happy Ending': Hiker Missing From Woodside Found 200 Feet Down Ravine, Sheriff's Office Says

SAN MATEO COUNTY, CA – A hiker who went missing Thursday afternoon in unincorporated Woodside and was found alive over the weekend and appears to be okay, a San Mateo County sheriff's spokesman said.
Bethnee Haury, 56, was found at about 10:30 a.m. Saturday about 200 feet down in a ravine and about 600 yards from Skyline Boulevard, which was the nearest road.
Haury had been last seen at about 4 p.m. Thursday on Skyline Boulevard by someone who lives or works in the area, according to the sheriff's office.

Haury suffers from dementia and is dependent on insulin. But the person that saw her Thursday afternoon told deputies that she looked okay.
Sheriff's spokesman Detective Salvador Zuno said at some point Haury must have become disoriented and hiked into the ravine.

A search team called out her name Saturday morning and she and her Australian Shepherd Camaro, which went hiking with her, answered.
Besides some bumps and bruises and being tired and dehydrated Haury was okay, according to Zuno.
"She a very tough lady," he said. Rescuers gave Haury some water and a snack and she was airlifted to a hospital.
Camaro was given some water and a snack. The dog was checked out and found to be fine.
"This is very happy ending," Zuno said.
Search teams started looking for Haury Thursday after her husband called the sheriff's office at about 7:30 p.m. to report that she had not returned from her hike.

Haury, her husband and son are Bay Area residents who were staying at a bed and breakfast when Haury left for the hike at about 1:30 p.m. The family had been traveling on vacation, Zuno said.
The San Mateo County Search and Rescue team and the Bay Area Mountain Rescue Unit, professional volunteer search teams, searched for Haury round-the-clock from Thursday into Friday morning, according to Zuno.
Except for a search by air, which went on into the night, rescuers went home at dusk on Friday and resumed the search at about 6 a.m. Saturday.
The teams used search dogs and off-road vehicles and later added a helicopter and sheriff's air unit to look for Haury.
