Woodside Prowler Chased Out of Residence by Homeowner

Police say the homeowner heard noises coming from the outside of his house before spotting the man inside.

WOODSIDE, CA- A suspect who entered an occupied house early Tuesday morning near Woodside evaded capture by San Mateo County sheriff’s deputies after the home’s owner chased the man off his property.

At around 4:15 a.m., a homeowner heard noises from the outside of his house in the 600 block of Mountain Home Road, according to the sheriff’s office.

“The homeowner stepped out of bed to investigate the source of the noise,” the sheriff’s office said in a news release. “Shortly thereafter, an unknown race male subject entered the residence through an unlocked exterior bedroom door and confronted the homeowner; by shining a very bright flashlight in his face.”

The homeowner chased the suspect outside for several hundred yards until he saw the suspect disappear into a wooded area, according to the sheriff’s office.

When sheriff’s deputies arrived, they searched the area but couldn’t find the suspect, who was described as a male who wore a dark colored hooded jacket and carried a flashlight.
