OAKLAND, CA — An Oakland Police officer saved the life of a newborn baby Tuesday by performing CPR. Both the mother and baby were transported to the hospital for treatment and are said to be doing well, according to OPD spokeswoman Johnna Watson.
Officer Palomo had just started his patrol shift Tuesday afternoon when he received a call about a woman screaming and crying for medical attention. She was somewhere in the area of 6th Street, near Laney College.
The officer found the woman "and discovered she had just given birth to a newborn," according to Watson. "Officer Palomo immediately noticed that the newborn was not breathing. Officer Palomo initiated lifesaving medical aid by conducting CPR. The newborn started crying/breathing."
