Oakland Man Sentenced To Federal Prison

OAKLAND, CA — An Oakland man was sentenced to 10 years in prison and fined $100,000 Friday after pleading guilty to possessing a gun as a felon, federal prosecutors said.

Marcus Jones, 33, entered the plea Aug. 11.

Prosecutors said the judge found that when Jones was arrested he had in his waistband a loaded, black, .40 caliber semi-automatic Glock handgun with a 22-round extended magazine.

Jones also had a bulletproof vest, $19,478 in cash on him and $14,980 in cash in his luggage.

At his home, Jones had an AK-47 assault rifle, 1,268 grams of marijuana, $240,280 in cash, credit card-making devices and other evidence he was involved in credit card fraud.

Prosecutors said the judge concluded from the evidence that Jones was involved in drug trafficking.

Prosecutors said that Jones has a history of violent crime and drug dealing, which the judge gave as reasons Jones is a danger to the community.
