Two markets were robbed and three elementary schools were burglarized Thursday morning in Santa Rosa, police said.

SANTA ROSA, CA — Five people were arrested in connection with breaking into three schools and robbing two markets early Thursday in Santa Rosa, police said.

Between 4:49 a.m. and 6:30 a.m., officers were dispatched to burglar alarms and reports of burglaries at Robert L. Stevens Elementary School, 2345 Giffen Ave., Roseland Creek Elementary School, 1683 Burbank Ave. and Albert Biella Elementary School, 2140 Jennings Ave.

Officers responded and searched for the burglars who reportedly took laptops, school supplies and other miscellaneous items, Santa Rosa police Sgt. Christopher Mahurin said.

No one was injured as the suspects took off with e-cigarettes, alcohol and money.

Officers searched the area for the suspects who were seen leaving in a car.

At 7:12 a.m., an armed robbery was reported at Fast & Easy Mart, 2550 Guerneville Road.

"The description of the second robbery was very similar to the Hopper Av robbery," Mahurin said. "A group of suspects entered the store, demanded/stole money and numerous items (e-cigarettes, alcohol, money), and fled the scene in a vehicle."

No injuries were reported.

Officers kept searching the area, and at 7:55 a.m., a car matching the one described was spotted near Cleveland Avenue and Ripley Street.

Officers did a "high-risk" stop of the vehicle and saw that the occupants matched the description of the market robbery suspects, Mahurin said.

Officers found a replica black rifle in the car and detained all five people inside the car, the sergeant said.

Two of the suspects were later identified by police as 20-year-old Jesus Jessie Moya-Madrigal and 18-year-old Edy Elisandro Santiago-Mojica, both of Santa Rosa.

The other three suspects were all 15-year-old girls from Santa Rosa, police said.

Officers served a search warrant later Thursday at a Santa Rosa residence where they recovered numerous items stolen from the markets and the schools.

Moya-Madrigal and Santiago-Mojica were booked into Sonoma County jail on suspicion of two counts of felony robbery and one felony count of burglary.

The three 15-year-old girls were booked into Sonoma County Juvenile Hall on suspicion of two counts of felony robbery and one count of felony burglary, police said.

Inventories of the items stolen and recovered were not yet completed and the investigation was continuing.
