Arrested: Woman Who Swam Across Russian River To Avoid Capture

"After the final sprint, Jaime was safely booked at the jail," the Sonoma County Sheriff's Office said about her arrest.

SONOMA COUNTY, CA — A fugitive who went on the lam for about a week after she reportedly swam across the Russian River to avoid capture was caught Wednesday, the Sonoma County Sheriff's Office said.

Jaime Rose Lamm, 31, was taken into custody Wednesday afternoon when a deputy made a traffic stop in the area of River and Fulton roads.

Lamm was wanted for several outstanding warrants, as well as the July 8 pursuit when she reportedly refused to yield to a traffic stop. Instead, she drove off in a stolen green pickup truck with a boat and trailer both in tow, according to the sheriff's office.

The brief pursuit from the Stumptown area of Guerneville to Rio Nido came to an end when Lamm crashed the truck, hopped out and ran for the river, the sheriff's office.

Lamm was last seen swimming across the Russian River.

Until Wednesday, when a deputy making the traffic stop recognized her.

She did not go willingly, the sheriff's office says.

According to a statement about her capture, "Jaime was arrested after a brief struggle with the arresting Deputy. Jaime later slipped out of her handcuffs and tried to escape again, but there was no water nearby and she was unable to elude a fleet footed Sheriff’s Sergeant. After the final sprint Jaime was safely booked at the jail."

Sheriff's jail records show she was booked in connection with at least 22 misdemeanor and felony counts.

Lamm made a court appearance Thursday and has another appearance set for July 27.

She was being held without bail as of Friday.
