Graffiti Busters

Busting graffiti is a joint community effort. Have you seen a problem area?

Who notices graffiti in Rohnert Park? There was a time when many people did, but three years ago, when Public Works hired a Graffiti Abatement Coordinator, the calls and complaints about graffiti diminished. Now it seems that only one to two calls for graffiti removal come in each week.

"Problem spots still remain," says Steve Martin, the city's graffiti abatement coordinator. "It shows up in parks, along creek trails and in public places, but it has subsided a great deal since first starting the job in Rohnert Park."

The City's graffiti abatement program has generated a lot of community support.  Community groups, such as the Rotary Club of Rohnert Park-Cotati, have volunteered to help with abatement efforts in neighborhoods throughout town.

The city will provide the supplies and a bit of training to groups or individuals that want to help. And believe it or not, there are special techniques and equipment needed for removing graffiti! If you should see it, please do not try to cover it up with primer or remove it yourself — this can make the problem worse and is more costly to correct.

Rather, community members are encouraged to report graffiti by either submitting a request in Reach Rohnert Park or by calling Public Works directly at 707-588-3300. If you or your organization would like to volunteer and participate in the graffiti abatement program, please call Public Works as well.
