Crews Knock Down Fire At Santa Rosa School Building

A maintenance worker helped put out the blaze, officials said.

SANTA ROSA, CA – A maintenance worker helped put out a fire in a one-story modular office building at a Santa Rosa City Schools facility Wednesday night.

The 10:37 p.m. fire at 211 Ridgway Ave. was brought under control in 15 minutes and caused about $25,000 damage, Santa Rosa Fire Department Battalion Chief Matt Dahl said.

Arriving crews reported smoke was coming from a crawlspace vent under the district's building and from an inside office area.

Firefighters removed exterior paneling to find the fire burning underneath the structure, enlarged a hole in the floor where the blaze burned through and then managed to contain the fire, according to officials.

The maintenance worker used a fire extinguisher, prior to the fire department's arrival, to extinguish the fire in the room where it burned through the floor.
