DUI Checkpoint Results: Rohnert Park Cops Cite 9 Drivers
The checkpoint was held Saturday night on Rohnert Park Expressway.

ROHNERT PARK, CA — The Rohnert Park Department of Public Safety issued nine citations during a DUI/driver's license checkpoint held Saturday night. All the citations were for drivers allegedly operating a vehicle without proper licensing, the DPS said in a follow-up news release.
The checkpoint was held from 8 p.m. Saturday to 1 a.m. Sunday on Rohnert Park Expressway, east of State Farm Drive. Eastbound drivers were screened, with 1,184 vehicles passing through the checkpoint; of those, 1,180 drivers were screened for signs of DUI and license checks, DPS Cmdr. Aaron Johnson said.
Nine of 30 drivers who were directed into a nearby parking area for further contact with officers for either DUI evaluation or a driver’s license check were the ones cited for not having a driver's license, Johnson said.

"All of the unlicensed drivers were allowed to get someone who was licensed to drive their vehicle away in lieu of it being towed," Johnson said.
"The purpose of this checkpoint operation was to inform the motoring public of the dangers associated with impaired driving," he said. "It was also to take enforcement action against impaired drivers and those driving with a suspended license or no license at all."

The checkpoint was made possible by a grant from the California Office of Traffic Safety provided to the Rohnert Park Department of Public Safety. More checkpoints will be conducted throughout the year with these funds to continue the education of drivers to refrain from driving after consuming alcohol or drugs, Johnson said.
