'Fireworks Turn-In' Event Planned In Rohnert Park

ROHNERT PARK, CA — The Rohnert Park Department of Public Safety is hosting a "Fireworks Turn-In" event Saturday.

The event runs from 10 a.m. until 1 p.m. at the city's future downtown site, 6400 State Farm Drive, and is "an opportunity for residents to surrender any fireworks they may have left over from previous years with no questions asked," police said in a news release.

Residents are asked to secure fireworks in the trunk of their car and remain in their car. Public Safety staff will provide direction and collect fireworks from each vehicle.

Illegal fireworks that will be accepted at the event include any device with a fuse that when lit begins to spark, make noise, spin and explode on the ground or in the air.

"We are asking not to turn in any weapons, flares, ammunition, etc. at this event," police said. "Should you have items to surrender or are unable to attend the fireworks turn-in event, please call us at 707-584-2600."

In September 2021, Rohnert Park voters approved Measure D which banned the sale and use of "safe and sane" fireworks in the city.

This Fourth of July in Rohnert Park, officers will patrol neighborhoods and follow up on firework reports. To report the use of illegal fireworks on the Fourth of July, community members can call the Rohnert Park Department of Public Safety at 707-584-2600 or use the department's online reporting tool at Rpcity.org/report-fireworks.

The use of party poppers, confetti cannons, and pop-it-type celebratory devices which do not require ignition is permitted in the city of Rohnert Park.
