Golis Parks Out Of Code Playground and Correcting Miss informatio
Even though the City knows it's out of code they have done nothing to fix the problems!
Here we go into another Winter, and nothing has been done to fix the things that can be fixed.
The most important safety concern is that the Water not draining under the Bark gets Stagnant and can turn Deadly. That’s why the Drainage is so important to a Playground that uses Loose Fill Fall Protection (Redwood Bark).
Besides all the Platform Max Height Violations (36” max) for kids 5 to 12, and 30” for Toddlers.

The Elevated Playground Structure allows the Toddlers to Walk or Crawl right up to the Top where the Platforms are 7’ and 8’ High, with Multiple Openings for the Toddlers to walk right off and break their Necks.
The Structures are connected and the Warning Signs are only 3” x 5”. People don’t see them, and some people can’t read English, and some just don’t Know any better, and the rest don’t care.

A 9’ Clearance is required between Structures. They have 0’ Clearance.
A 6’ Clearance is Required around all Ladders and Stairs. They have 3’ on one of them. So if a child is climbing up the Ladder and falls, they will bounce off the Structure Behind it. That’s why the 6’ Clearance rule was written!
A 8’ Landing Zone for 8’ Slides, they have 6’ Clearance on both before a Concrete Curb.
A 6’ Clearance is required anywhere there is a possibility of a child falling. They have at least 10 areas where if a child falls while climbing over the walls, they will land on the Elevated Stepping Steps.
They installed both Structures together instead of having the Required 9’ Clearance between Structures.
Plus they left a Deadly step at the bottom, right next to the Toddlers Slide. If a child falls on this Metal Step with numerous Sharp Corners that could cause a serous head injury.
By Law the City is required to do the Routine Maintenance of the Loose Fill Fall Materials by filling in the holes at the bottom of the Slides. And they are Required to Document all of the Maintenance.
FIXES
Have the School Department Playground Expert look at it and say it would be ok to put in the school yard. The answer would be NO WAY, NOT MADE TO PROPER STANDARDS,
The City could go and Snake out the old drain.
Install some Protection on the sides of the bottom step. You can see the two holes on the sides where there is supposed to be another section installed so there aren’t any corners exposed.
Dig a 1’ wide Trench to the center and install a French Drain to remove the standing water. This won’t help the Contamination that has been there for 30 years.
The Ground cover around the Playground is a Breeding Ground for Large Rats. They feed on the Open Trash container on the other side of the Playground, and go the bathroom in the Bark on their way home. My cat brings home 12” Rats from there often.
The City started to remove some of the cover around the park along time ago, it was too hard for them so they stopped.
Another problem are the Cracks in the Adobe. They are 3” to 6” wide, and 5’ long. A child’s foot will slip in the holes, and this could cause them to break a leg. They put dirt in a pile by the soccer field behind the school, and sprinkle it in some of the holes, but don’t do the rest of the grass areas where kids play.
They start a job, do about 30% of the work, and move on to the next job, and do another 30% of the work. They never Finish the jobs, and have to be reminded to go and finish the work. Poor planning.
Just look at the two areas where they started to fix the entrances to the park and put down some rock, but just made a mess in the wet Adobe Mud with the Backhoe. So they just left it for the whole Summer when they should have finished the work. Just another example of doing 30% of the work, and not finishing it.
