Mountain Lion Spotted In Santa Rosa, May Be Injured: Police

BREAKING: One caller reported hitting the animal with their vehicle, police said.

SONOMA COUNTY, CA — Santa Rosa police responded to two separate reports of a mountain lion sighting Wednesday near Chanate Road, including one citizen who reported hitting the animal with their car, police said.

The first report came at about 2:30 a.m. Wednesday and involved a mountain lion seen wandering in the area of Chanate Road and Fountain Grove Parkway. Officers responded to the area but were not able to locate the animal.

At 9:30 p.m. Wednesday, officers were dispatched to the area of Montecito Meadows and Chanate Road regarding the report about someone hitting a mountain lion with their vehicle. Again, officers were unable to locate the large cat.

Police believe the mountain lion may be injured and still in the area, and urged citizen to use caution.

"Contact 911 if you see the mountain lion," Santa Rosa police said. "Do not approach the mountain lion for any reason."
