Officials Celebrate New $19M Bridge In Sonoma County
The new Laguna de Santa Rosa Bridge on state Highway 12 provides access during all weather conditions, including floods, an official said.
SONOMA COUNTY, CA -- State, county and local officials cut a ribbon to open a new, wider bridge in Sebastopol Tuesday.
The $19 million Laguna de Santa Rosa Bridge on state Highway 12 has 12-foot lanes, 8-foot shoulders and 7-foot sidewalks on both sides.
The old bridge needed replacement after years of scouring and erosion from the Laguna de Santa Rosa Creek. Construction started in June 2015.

More than 23,000 vehicles cross the bridge daily.
"The wider shoulders and sidewalks improve accessibility not only for cars, but for bicycles and pedestrians," Caltrans Director Malcolm Dougherty said.

"The bridge serves as a gateway to the City of Sebastopol, and we are proud we were able to partner with the city for the timely delivery of this bridge," said Caltrans District 4 Director Bijan Sartipi.
Sebastopol Councilwoman Sarah Gurney said the new span provides access during all weather conditions including floods in the Laguna de Santa Rosa area.
