Rohnert Parks G Sections Stormwater Drainage System Is Backed Up!

The stormwater discharge lines have lost half their capacity due to sediment backup in their open culverts downstream of outlet.

The city hasent been cleaning their open stormwater drainage culverts as required by law, to keep the water coming into the system flowing freely. They were told that the open culvert maintenance and cleaning was the city’s responsibility after the county came in and removed the sediment from the outlet, down to the walking bridge. Still nothing at all has been done to fix the problem over the last three years.

They had to put in a second underground drain line under the Bike Path, to handle all the flow coming from the upper G Sections Streets, after the flood years ago. But now with the sediment and small bushes that limit the flows, they have lost half of the flow in both of the pipes.

The city’s Water Managers have been told every year for three years, and here we are again.

Another problem with the loss of half of the flow is the flow that is forced out comes out faster on the top of the water stream, because the lower portion isn’t flowing. This makes more a danger to the kids that play on the muddy banks if they fall in. Also the banks are covered with mud were the county placed some of the mud sediment that they dug out during the work they did. This makes the sides extremely slippery. I have sent photos to all the city managers, and councle members, but still no fixes.

The New playground that is also loaded with safety issues and no drainage for their Loose Fill Fall Protection (redwood bark) is right next to the fast moving water.

The sediment is also contaminated with Hydrocarbons and dangerous chemicals, and Lead, and the neighborhood kids play in the dirt all summer long. Also photos of them playing in the contaminated dirt have been sent to everyone also.

The pictures that show the water level at about half way up, are after only a couple of small rain days. We haven’t received any substantial amounts of rain in a row. And this first few rain days, there wasn’t any flow out the pipe. The level inside kept raising until it slowly went over the 18” of backed up sediment, and all the undergrowth buildup. Just look at the photos that were sent to the city, each year!

I have asked why they can’t put a 4’ High chain link fence around the area from the outlet pipe, to the Wooden Walkway to keep everyone out, but no luck.
