Sonoma Co. Deputy Injured As Inmate Tries To Escape Hospital
The incident happened at about 2:30 p.m. Thursday at Sutter Hospital.

SANTA ROSA, CA — A Sonoma County sheriff’s deputy was injured Thursday when a jail inmate tried to escape from the hospital, a sheriff's official said. The incident happened at Sutter Hospital at about 2:20 p.m., sheriff's Sgt. Spencer Crum said. Inmate Yesenia Carranza, 29, was transported to the hospital at about 1:15 p.m. for an undisclosed medical issue, Crum said.
"As is standard protocol, a Sonoma County sheriff’s deputy was assigned to guard the inmate while in the hospital receiving medical attention," Crum said.
But shortly after 2:30 p.m. Carranza "suddenly fled on foot through the hospital in an attempt to escape and the deputy gave chase," the sergeant said.

The deputy whose name was not released was treated at the hospital for "significant injuries" but is expected to be OK.
Crum said Carranza has been in custody since June 10 and was serving a 30-day sentence for drug charges.
"She was booked back into the jail after this incident and was charged with resisting arrest resulting in serious bodily injury and escape," he said.
