71 DUI Arrests, 1 Fatality Over Labor Day Weekend In San Diego County

Auto accidents claimed 30 lives across California.

SAN DIEGO COUNTY, CA – As was the case last year, a single traffic fatality occurred in the San Diego area over the long Labor Day weekend, the California Highway Patrol reported Tuesday.

Likewise, CHP officers took 71 drivers into custody for allegedly driving while intoxicated on local roads over the three-day period this year – the same number as in 2016, said Officer Mary Bailey, a spokeswoman for the state agency.

Across California, auto accidents claimed 30 lives – eight fewer than last year – from 6 p.m. Friday to 11:59 p.m. Monday, and a total of 1,071 motorists were jailed by the CHP on suspicion of DUI, 12 fewer than in 2016, according to the Highway Patrol.
