City Tacos Team To Open New Restaurant At San Diego's Liberty Station (patch.com) — San Diego food lovers can look forward to El Punto, a new family- and dog-friendly restaurant from the City Tacos team opening this October at Liberty Station in Point Loma. The large indoor-outdoor space will serve City Tacos favorites, seafood-focused entrees, brunch, and Micheladas, plus offer a kids area and enclosed dog park, expanding a homegrown San Diego restaurant group's local footprint.
   

2. Man Arrested In Fatal Beating Of Neighbor Who Intervened In Fight (patch.com) — San Diego police arrested 36-year-old Hector Esquivel in connection with the fatal beating of a neighbor who stepped in to break up a fight in the Mt. Hope neighborhood. The victim, a 46-year-old man, suffered fatal head injuries, and homicide detectives are asking San Diego residents to share any information that could help the investigation.
   

3. Man Arrested In Bay Area In Fatal San Diego Shooting (patch.com) — San Diego readers are learning more about June's fatal shooting near the Union Grantville apartments, after police say a 19-year-old suspect was arrested in Hayward and faces a murder charge. Investigators believe he fled San Diego after the killing of 19-year-old Deandre Towers, who was found shot in a car on Mission Gorge Road and later died at a local trauma center. Detectives are still seeking tips from the public as extradition proceedings move forward.
   

4. Salmonella Outbreak Linked To Ramona Market Grows To 21 Cases (patch.com) — San Diego County health officials report that a Salmonella outbreak tied to mayonnaise from a Ramona market has grown to 21 local cases, including seven hospitalizations. The investigation now extends beyond the original deli, focusing on eggs from a regional poultry supplier and reminding retailers and residents to handle and cook eggs safely. Anyone in the county with symptoms after eating undercooked eggs is urged to seek care and report their illness.
   

5. San Diego sued for misinterpreting state housing law that allows for projects near transit areas (timesofsandiego.com) — San Diego is being sued by two housing advocacy groups that say the city wrongly limited where transit-oriented housing can be built by insisting on continuous sidewalks to transit stops. The lawsuit could reshape how many parcels near trolley stations, including in Encanto, qualify for denser housing under California's Abundant and Affordable Homes Near Transit Act.
