SAN DIEGO, CA — As we head into the new week, we've rounded up the stories you may have missed Saturday and Sunday to prepare you for Monday.
But before we jump into Southern California's top stories, residents should expect very hot conditions to continue this week, with a high risk for heat illness, according to the National Weather Service.
"Above average high and low temperatures will continue through next week," NWS San Diego forecasters wrote Sunday. "Widespread moderate to locally major HeatRisk for the coast, valleys, and mountains except near the beaches and for the higher elevations in the mountains, with major to extreme HeatRisk for the lower deserts."
In other news, a man was taken into custody in connection with human remains found over the weekend; a man and dog were killed in a house fire; a new lead in a kidnapped college student's killing has SoCal ties; and authorities said a police officer fatally shot a knife-wielding suspect.
Also, a famous rock icon is seeking to exclude the testimony of two adult sons of a woman who alleges the singer had a sexual relationship with her when she was 16 years old and he was 25.
Plus, as schools reopen amid a national surge in measles cases, California students will continue to follow the state's existing vaccination requirements, despite President Donald Trump's latest effort to change the country's childhood vaccine schedule.
