SAN DIEGO, CA — San Diego Humane Society rescued dozens of animals from a San Diego home after their owner was evicted Wednesday and left them behind.
An adult cat, eight kittens, 16 adult quails and 30 quail chicks were living in "deplorable conditions" and had been left without food or water in the house in San Diego's Golden Hill neighborhood, according to the organization.
"The owner was evicted (Wednesday), but it is unknown at this point how long the animals were left unattended in the home," Humane Society spokeswoman Nina Thompson told Patch.

"We can see some of the birds have feathers missing, but overall they appear generally healthy," she said. "The exams will give us a more exact assessment."
The animals are currently in the organization's care for emergency boarding, pending the investigation. It is not yet known if or when the animals will be placed up for adoption, Thompson said.
