Earthquake In San Diego County Rattles SoCal

The quake was reported Monday morning. Did you feel it?

SAN DIEGO, CA — An earthquake in San Diego County rattled Southern California Monday morning.

The 4.1-magnitude quake was reported at 5:17 a.m. about 11 miles southeast of Ocotillo Wells, an unincorporated community in the county, according to the U.S. Geological Survey. The quake was roughly 7 miles deep.

The quake activated the ShakeAlert Earthquake Early Warning System, according to the USGS.

Residents in Orange, Riverside and San Diego counties reported feeling the quake, including in Aliso Viejo, Chula Vista, El Cajon, Escondido, Fallbrook, Julian, Laguna Hills, Murrieta, Oceanside, Poway, San Diego and Temecula, according to the USGS's "Did You Feel It?" map.

There were no immediate reports of damage or injuries due to the quake.

As of 7:10 a.m., no aftershocks have been recorded.

"Aftershocks may be expected in the next few days, the largest expected is approximately 1 magnitude unit smaller than the mainshock," Southern California Seismic Network wrote.

There is a small chance, roughly 5 percent, that a larger quake could occur, with the likelihood decreasing over time, according to Southern California Seismic Network.

The quake comes after a swarm of quakes struck Saturday in the Brawley area of Imperial County, east of San Diego. By 11 a.m. Saturday, the Southern California Seismic Network recorded 128 "events" in the swarm.
