Motorist Drives Into Traffic Controller Before Start Of San Diego Comic-Con

The victim suffered minor injuries in the crash, police said.

SAN DIEGO, CA – A motorist apparently upset about being subjected to Marina-area traffic restrictions shortly before the start of Comic-Con International 2017 at the San Diego Convention Center intentionally drove his truck into a city special-events traffic controller Wednesday, authorities reported.

The driver began arguing with the police employee as the victim was trying to direct him through traffic at First Avenue and Harbor Drive shortly before 2:30 p.m., SDPD Officer Dino Delimitros said.

Following the verbal outburst, the man hit the gas and steered directly at the traffic controller, causing a side mirror on his black full-sized pickup truck to hit the victim in the head. The unidentified motorist then drove out of the area.
