1 Killed, 2 Missing, 16 Rescued After Boat Fire Near Alcatraz: Reports
The 20-foot boat was completely submerged as of shortly after 4:30 p.m., according to KTVU.
SAN FRANCISCO — One person was killed, two were missing, and 16 were rescued in connection with a boat fire Tuesday afternoon near Alcatraz Island, according to authorities and media reports.
KGO reported the fatality from the sunken boat between Alcatraz Island and the Golden Gate Bridge, citing a photographer at the scene. The incident occurred around 3:30 p.m., according to the outlet, which reported that a dog on the vessel also died.
The U.S. Coast Guard and other agencies were responding to the blaze, according to the Coast Guard, which reported there were 19 people on board the vessel. Search and rescue efforts were ongoing and a triage area had been established on shore.
