SAN FRANCISCO, CA — Yes, the messaging tool Slack went down Wednesday due to "connectivity issues." If your company was one of the thousands that use the app, you probably found yourself resorting to ancient methods of communication, including using your telephone, Google Hangouts or — gasp — talking face-to-face.

Although the essential app returned just before 10 a.m. Pacific Time, mass hysteria befell much of America as workers sat at their desks, opened their computers, opened Slack and were greeted with an ugly yellow bar: No, the app isn't working.

While some workers quipped they might as well go home — including more than one digital journalist — others made the best of a sticky situation. Fortunately, the "rest of" the internet came through to help us cope with the loss.
