NORTHERN CALIFORNIA — As we head into the new week, we've rounded up the stories you may have missed Saturday and Sunday to prepare you for Monday.
But before we jump into Northern California's top stories, residents should expect more rain to start off the week in the San Francisco Bay Area after a powerful storm system brought heavy rain, strong winds and even a tornado to the region, according to the National Weather Service. More rain is on the way this weekend.
"Beneficial rain is forecast to spread across the region from north to south today," National Weather Service San Francisco forecasters wrote Monday. "Conditions dry out tonight and continue through the work week. The next storm system looks to arrive this weekend."

In other news, five people were injured in the tornado that ripped through Scotts Valley in Santa Cruz County, police said. The storm caused a wide range of damage, including downed trees, downed power poles, trees stripped of branches, damaged street signs and overturned vehicles, according to the National Weather Service.
An earthquake struck over the weekend off the coast of Northern California. The 5.3 magnitude earthquake was recorded more than 45 miles west-northwest of Petrolia, an unincorporated community in Humboldt County, according to the U.S. Geological Survey. The quake triggered a ShakeAlert but no tsunami warning.

Plus, flu and RSV activity has increased across California. The state recorded 88 deaths from the viruses by the end of last week, including the first pediatric death of the season. Health officials urged people to get their flu shots ahead of the holiday season.
