7 Community-Led Park Improvement Projects Ok'd In SF

Seven community-driven park improvement projects across San Francisco are moving forward.

SAN FRANCISCO, CA — Seven community-driven park improvement projects across San Francisco will move forward after receiving approval from the San Francisco Recreation and Park Commission, city officials announced Thursday.

The projects, funded through the Community Opportunity Fund, will bring upgrades to parks and public spaces focused on accessibility, safety, recreation, and neighborhood gathering areas.

Approved projects include improvements to the skatepark at Balboa Park, accessibility and infrastructure upgrades at community gardens and playgrounds, and pathway and drainage improvements at Jerry Garcia Amphitheater in John McLaren Park.

About $6 million has been allocated for the projects through the 2020 Health and Recovery Bond, with individual projects eligible for between $500,000 and $1.5 million in funding.

The Recreation and Park Department received 36 applications during the latest funding cycle, city officials said.
