Celebrate Peruvian Independence Day In SF: Block Party & Tasty Food

SAN FRANCISCO, CA — Two San Francisco restaurants — La Mar and Jaranita — are marking Peruvian Independence Day this week with live music, dance performances and a block party — plus classic Peruvian cuisine.

On July 28, Peru celebrates its liberation from Spain, followed by the July 29th commemoration establishment of the Republic of Perú. These two days, dubbed Las Fiestas Patrias, will be heralded Thursday and Friday by the two eateries.

On Thursday, July 28, at La Mar, live performances from Gabriela Shiroma and dancers are scheduled from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m., along with Chef Victoriano Lopez's traditional Peruvian dishes for lunch and dinner. Reservations can be made here.

And on Sunday, July 31, from 12 p.m. to p.m., La Mar will host a Peruvian marketplace on the waterfront with live music and food stations serving anticuchos, cebiches and empanadas, along with a Pisco Bar to shake up Chilcanos, Pisco Sours, and creative pisco-inspired cocktails. And from the Peruvian grill Jaranita: On Thursday, July 28, enjoy live music , plus half-price on all spritzes in pineapple, watermelon or blood orange from 5 p.m.to close.

On Sunday, July 31, Jaranita will host a block party with street food stations, live music and drinks from 12p.m. to 3 p.m. on Steiner Street block between Lombard and Chestnut. Dining options will include anticuchos, empanadas and cebiche, plus drinks featuring El Cholito del Marina, sangria, and more.
